Weight loss

  • What should I do?

Over the past month my cat has lost a lot of weight and is starting to develop a patch between his shoulderblades where the fur is gone now. I think its from the weight loss though. The patch is reddish, but not raw or flaky. He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable or in pain, but is having trouble with jumping now. He still purrs and still likes to climb to my lap to be affectionate. He's just started mousing this year. He's 5 years old. Is this metabolism or parasites from the mice and what can I do to get him back to normal? He is absolutely terrified of travel so I'm leery about taking him out and further traumatizing him if I don't have to. Can you help?

  • ideas for max

My 7yr 62lb golden Max went to the vet 10days ago with symtoms of not eating, shaking, hind legs seem painful. He has trouble getting up and going down stairs and bending down to go to the bathroom. They took Xrays and he did show a very small amt of arthirtis in lower back and in hips but nothing major. They also did a blood test and all of his organs showed in good health. He has been on antibiotics and rymidal since and it seems like nothing has changed. He will seem like he feels better for a few hours and then we are right back to where we were. I have another appt for him this week but is there anything you can think of that I can bring up to his vet to check...

  • Metal allergy?

Our cat Charlie has been getting sick since the beginning of the year. For two weeks he was sick everyday - and not just a little bit. He was at the vet everyday, getting anti-biotics and water infusionsions. This didn't help, so we stopped taking him, and he got better. Since then he's been sick on and off - and I noticed that it coincides with me using a metal food bowl for him. Is it possible that he has a metal allergy? He has no outside symptons such as rashes or welts on his skin. I'd appreciate any info you could give, thanks.

  • bleeding ulcer

Our vet told us today that our 12 year old Mini Schnauzer has a bleeding ulcer. She's been losing weight and then this morning, my mom found a pool of blood under her after she woke up. Does this sound like a bleeding ulcer or something worse?

  • Heartworms?

Our sharpei seems to be losing weight. She simply isn't acting like herself...not as happy. She has also been dry heaving. And she shivers sometimes. A friend mentioned that it might be heartworms? Any advice you have would be much appreciated. I wanted to see if there was anything I could purchase that fit these symptoms or if I should just go ahead and take her to the vet. Thanks, Heather

  • Dog with watery eye

My 6 year old black lab is sick. She has one eye that waters continuously. The light bothers it and she won't let me touch it. She also has blood in her mucus. She has so much mucus that she is constantly snorting it and licking it off her nose. She sleeps all day and doesn't excited about anything anymore. She is losing weight and doesn't eat much. This has been going on for a month and the vet doesn't know what it is. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

  • puppy failing

I have a 3 month old chihuahua puppy that I adopted 2 weeks ago from a rescue shelter. He was great for the first few days and then started losing weight. I took him back to ask her for her advice and she sent him home with albon and amoxicillin and vitamins and asked me to keep her informed about him. I took him to the vet 2 days later and the vet told me to take him off the antibiotics and put him on a stronger one, to keep giving him the vitamins and Pedialyte as well. he''s also on hills science diet which I''ve been mixing with a little water and feeding with a syringe. He''s not eating or drinking on his own; everything he gets is with a syringe. He''ll walk a...
