My dog has a UTI. She had one about 7 months ago and it the vet said that she drinks too much water and it lowered the PH of her urine. It occurred, I believe because she had to hold it too long- a fact which causes me guilt to this day. I had a stretch of a week at work where I was away from home for more than 12 hours. It was a stressful situation, but she was put on antibiotics and it cleared within a few days. As you know, Labs are very tolerant by nature, and that includes pain. I noticed the tell-tale signs on Thursday night-straining, urgency, etc. I lost my job in the mortgage bus. about 4 months ago and new jobs have FINALLY started to turn up; I was...

straining to urinate
Posted on 2008/02/27 by LauraMy Greyhound is at the vet quarantined because he nipped at a child but did not draw blood. That is not the issue. The vet just called to say he is straining to urinate. Would this have anything to do with being stressed out at being at the vet? He has been drinking a lot of water. They want to do X-rays and possibly surgery for bladder stones. I am supposed to bring him home tomorrow. Should I do this first and watch him for a couple of days to see if he is doing this at home?

not using litter box
Posted on 2008/03/02 by UserAfter my cat had surgery, he hasn't been using his litter box. Instead, he is going to the bathroom all over the house. How can we get him to start using his litter box again?

Collie/shepard mix 12 yrs. old stopped eating last four meals. She takesProin 50mg. 2x a day,Famotidine 20mg.(1/2 tbl.) 2x a day,and Estradiol 1mg. 1x wkly. She continues to take her pills but is suddenly having incontinence again today. Tonight she was going out to potty and suddenly fell to her side, she seemed out of it and shortness of breath. After what felt like an eternity she got up and went potty and came back in and laid down. Could this have been fainting from not eating, or something more serious? Suggestions?

What is the real reason my cat is pooping and urinating outside of her litterbox?
Posted on 2008/03/03 by UserMy cat has kidney disease. For the last month, she has been pooping and occasionally peeing on my couch, in front of the door, and underneath my window. Of course I am concerned about urine soaking into my carpet. The urination has not happened on the carpet yet, thank goodness. I believe she's doing this on purpose because they are always in these places. I think she gets mad when I am not there or not giving her constant attention. She is telling me "what for". My mom suggests putting her down, but it seems so weird to do that for this reason. Is there a chance that the kidney disease is the reason for this? Has it gotten to her brain or something...

Bump on right side of stomach
Posted on 2008/03/20 by JessicaMy Pit Bull puppy is 7 weeks old. She had her 6 week shots. She eats fine and plays normal. Her only issue is she has to pee every hour. We noticed she has a bump on the right side of her stomach. It's about the size of a dime. After she eats a lot the left side of her stomach is considerably larger than the right side. Could the spot be a tumor on her bladder? Or is there another reason why she needs to potty so often instead of every 4-6 hours like other puppies her age?
