Paralysis

  • Neuro changes in cat

Wondering if you can help me with my 8yo. neutered male cat. Last night I heard him crying and when I went to see what was wrong, he was trying to walk but was stumbleing all over the place. His head was also moving back and forth from left to right. He did know me but seemed to be a little disoriented at the same time. He also lost control of his bowels which I spotted later on the rug. He did this about 4 or 5 months ago but I thought he may have eaten something outside and was having a reaction. Now I don't think so since he wasn't outside yesterday except for about 20 minutes in the morning. Any ideas? Thanks, Joanne Carr

  • Dog having seizures

    Hi,

My dog is having seizers more and more lasting longer itching throwing up every time she eats. Her vet wants to run a bunch of tests before he puts her on the seizure medication. Is this the right plan?

  • worried

My cat, "Tink" is 18 and has been walking funny for about one year. As soon as I saw her walking like this, I took her to the vet right away. I thought if it was something simple like earmites or an ear infection, it could be easily treated). The vet said they suspect a central nervous system issue, but we could not afford an MRI. They said it did not seem like she was in pain and to keep an eye on her. When she walks, her hind legs are spread apart and mostly straight. She has also had trouble with balance and jumping on and off of things. I usually don't get to see her that often (about once a year) since she lives with my dad. This week I noticed...

  • First let me say I know you can not tell me what to do and you haven't seen my dog, I have a 10 y.o American Bulldog, he awoke yesterday with right sided face drooping /eye, he is walking on his knuckles of hind legs and having trouble with balance,he seems to have no control over his hind legs, is lethargic, laying around, no appetite, he was healthy one day (except for allergies) and woke up to this the next. We took him to the vet the same day and left with pretty much no answers, their suggestion of course is to seek a neurologist ( 2 hrs away is closest) MRI etc., the cost of these things is enormous so we are weighing his chances of actually getting better, by this...

  • concern about other pets

we recently lost bubba suddenly. should I be worried about my other pets.

  • Canine Degenerative Myopathy

Our dog had an episode where he could not walk for a period of about 3 days. We took him to emergency hosptial where they did many tests. They gave him a steriod and that helped a lot. This was about 8 years ago. There was no diagnosis found. He is having it again now. I looked up his symptoms and they are just like Canine Degenerative Myopathy with the exception that it states these dogs die within a year of onset. It has been 8 years and our dog has been great until now. Can this disease go away for several years and reoccur?

  • Back pain

Her first episode with her back was in 2005. She is now having another however this time she has some pain. Her first bout it was easy to get her to lay down. This time she seems to prefer to sit. Is this okay?

  • Time to put him to sleep?

My chocolate lab is 14 and has polyneuropathy in his rear legs. He is on tramadol 100 mg 2x a day and rymadyl 2 x day. He is getting worse, heavy panting, falls often, struggles to rise, but still eats and wants to be where I am. When wil I know?

  • I have a 15-year-old Wheaten Terrier with all the symptoms of a tumor in the cerebellum according to the neurologist at the vet school here -- intention tremor, right head tilt, lack of use of back legs, fecal incontinence, crying and panting at night. On the plus side, he has a very good appetite. The vet did not recommend an MRI because he said the dog was too old for surgery or radiation treatment which would require a general anesthetic. We are palliatively treating him with acupuncture and Chinese herbs (from the vet school). My question is: Are we giving up too easily? Should we be more aggresive with the treatment? Are 15-year-old dogs too old to be treated? ...
