Slipped Disc
Posted on 2009/10/19 by UserMy dog has just been diagnosed with a slipped disk in his thoracic area. We have started him on steroids and he is currently in the hospital until Wednesday. The vet has informed me that if he isnot better by Wed I should consider euthanization which I refuse to do. He can be referred to the Unversity of GA but I do not have the funds to send him there. Does he have to be put to sleep - is this a must? This just started Saturday around midnight and he has some paralysis in his hind legs but no other signs. he is still urinating well, etc. Please help. Thank you. Dana

Spinal cord trauma preventing bladder...
Posted on 2009/10/21 by AliceI have a much loved and very characterful 9 year old tabby cat called Austin. Sadly he suffered some spinal trauma about 5 years ago when a relative pulled him down a chimney. At the time he became almost paralyzed over a couple of months, then we treated him with prednisolone and he gradually recovered and has been almost normal for about 5 years on a low dose of prednisolone, though with an odd gait and slightly reduced mobility. About 2 weeks ago he started being unable to urinate. We took him to a vet who said that it was likely to be the spinal problem preventing him from urinating and catheterized him. We then brought him home for a few days, he was still unable...

Our dog has HOD -
Posted on 2009/10/23 by UserFreddie, our 6-month-old Irish Setter has HOD. He has been sick about three weeks. He's getting Rimadyl for the pain, but it doesn't seem to be working as well as it did at first. Do you have any suggestions? Since starting the Rimadyl he has really bloody stools, almost liquid. He has never had parasites. I had our vet do a fecal lab check to make sure. Also, should we give him his heartworm pill (Iverhart) and his flea treatment (Advantage) while he is so sick? Thank you!

My older cat (13) hindlegs look like he is paddling or trying to get away from something causing him a great deal of pain. It doesn't always seem to be the same side that hurts him. He turns his head around and bites himself and pulls out his hair. He then sits for a few minutes like he is in a trance but seem to respond when I call him or pet him. I had a blood test done a few weeks ago. They said he is ok except fro FIV. No kidney or liver infection. He did have 3 teeth pulled which was causing bad breath. (it is gone now.) One Dr said he could live several years but was gone when I picked him up. The one there said he might not live a year because of the...

back/neck pain
Posted on 2009/11/09 by UserHow long can a dog remain on anti-inflammatories or pain meds for back/neck pain that may be caused by a slightly bulging disc? My dog is 6 yrs old. He weighs approx. 9 lbs and is neutured. I am trying to find an alternative to a $2000 diagnostic proceedure that may not find the problem.
