My year old Basset Hound puppy, Tanner, has been acting strange for about the past week. He seems very lethargic and barely has an appetite. He's lost some weight, and whenever he walks he tends to favor his back hips. He had surgery in January on his front left leg to fix an ununited ancheol process. He will eat people food, like noodles, but has almost no interest in dog food. Bowel movements are normal as far as I can tell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

strange limp
Posted on 2009/05/20 by UserMy Cat Tilly seems to be having trouble with her paw. She can but doesn't seem to want to put weight on it she is walking on it with out really limping but will sit with her paw off the floor. she licks it and keeps shaking it. I've checked for swelling or a sting and I can rub her paw without there appearing to be any discomfort. When the food is put out any discomfort seems to disappear! I have two cats and they are both indoor cats I havent noticed her get injured or land awkwardly and am a little puzzled any advice? Regards Sol

our cat had an altication with a tom at least twice her size. She seems to be in a lot of pain around the base of her spine. no appetite although has managed to take water. I am in a very difficult financial situation & am finding the vet bill unmanagable. Is there anywhere i could see she gets treatment with a "spread the cost" arrangement? My nearest surgery have absolutely refused to treat her on this basis. Please help.

Eye Problem
Posted on 2009/05/22 by UserI have an almost 3 year old pug. I recently noticed that her right pupil is completely constricted and nonreactive to light or darkness. There is also some redness around her iris. She also seems to be favoring it quite a bit. I can find no injuries to her eye that could cause this. Her left eye is completely dilated and reacts to light. However, it remains dilated unless a light is directly shined in her eye. I am not sure what the cause of this uneven dilation and soreness is. Could you give me some possibilities?

intermittant limping/pain
Posted on 2009/05/24 by UserLucky has been limping periodically and whines in pain when he gets up or lays down. We have checked his paw and elbow onhis left front paw and can find nothing. It seems to be in his shoulder. He cries when you lift him leg out away from the body.(like a wing) He lays on his left side and does not appear to be in pain. This is also intermittant. He will be fine for a few days and then he will limp again. e jumps off the furniture all the time and we thought he may have pulled a muscle. We are unable financially to take him to the vet right now. Would it be okay to give him children's ibuprofen a couple times a day when he is in pain? Thanks

Can you help me help Willy?
Posted on 2009/05/24 by UserMy 6 yr old chihuahua "willy" was sick last week with a large bump under his right eye. I took him to the vet and she said it was probably a tooth abscess. She put him on antibiotics and scheduled him for an abstraction. The antibiotics seem to make him feel better but the bump stayed. After 5 days the bump seemed to rupture on the outside of his face leaving a small bloody spot but apparently didn't drain because the bump is still there although not as big. Is this a tooth abscess or not? The abstraction will be very expensive and I want him to get well but don't want unnecessary surgery or expense.

I don't know what to do about my 5 yr old shih tzu. He has been to the vet twice in the last 5 days because his abdomen was very tense and he was having a hard time laying down comfortably. His blood work was normal except for his rbc which were a little bit higher than normal, his x ray showed nothing but some gas in his intestine. Vet said he had a high amount of bacteria in his intestine and prescribed Metronidazole. He hasn't eaten for 24 hours per the vet... but he is still acting lethargic, and in pain. How long does it take for something like this to pass?
