Lucy has been deteriorating in this respect for some time. When I mentioned it to her Vet last, he didn't comment and I neglected to followup. She has been getting progressively worse for about a year. The onset was a difficulty sitting still. when sitting, her front feet would slowly slide out in front of her. Then she began having trouble moving quickly on the tile floors. Her back legs would slide out from under her and she would go down on her hips. Lately she has trouble getting up off her bed when her front feet are on the tile. She has either become incontinent, or just can't get up to go, so she soils her bed every day or so. She works at lying down,...

Guidance needed on whether to go for MRI or not
Posted on 2008/01/03 by Mary AnnFirst let me say I know you can not tell me what to do and you haven't seen my dog, I have a 10 y.o American Bulldog, he awoke yesterday with right sided face drooping /eye, he is walking on his knuckles of hind legs and having trouble with balance,he seems to have no control over his hind legs, is lethargic, laying around, no appetite, he was healthy one day (except for allergies) and woke up to this the next. We took him to the vet the same day and left with pretty much no answers, their suggestion of course is to seek a neurologist ( 2 hrs away is closest) MRI etc., the cost of these things is enormous so we are weighing his chances of actually getting better, by this...

Yesterday, I reluctantly had my dog nuetered. I brought him in at 8:30 am and went to pick him up at 5:30pm that afternoon. When they brought him out, he was still somewhat out of it. I even questioned whether he knew me or not. He had been through a lot and I just assumed he would snap out of it later in the night That he just needed more time to recover. The tech, at the last minute of me ready to take him, looked concerned and checked his gums for color then wanted the dr to check him one last time to be sure he was ok before I left. Well, he did and found he was bleeding internally as his gums were white. He told me thank god that the tech noticed this as he...

Odd clear fluid
Posted on 2008/02/01 by UserBackground: My 17 yr old cat has been ill for over a year. The vets said a few months ago there was nothing left to do, but make her comfortable. A sonegram from Jan 2007 showed a black mass on her intestine (don't rememberif it was the large one or the small one), but she was too fragil to handle a biopsy. Therefore, the diagnosis was only a guess: Either Lymphoma, OR a bad case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My question to you relates to an incident yesterday morning: She was having a drink of water and suddenly let out a loud, AWFUL moan, and fell over. While laying on her side, a large GUSH of clear, odorless fluid came pouring out of her butt. I know it was coming...

I have had a stray mixed breed outside dog for 6 years. I estimate his age to be 7 or 8 years. Yesterday he appeared to be fine - playing, eating and normal behaviour. Last night I noticed he was limping - which has progressed to both front and back legs stiff and weak. I have manipulted his leges looking for muscle soreness broken bones, sores or bites. I found nothing. Neither did he appear to be botherd by my checking. I kept him inside last night (which is something he generally does not tolerate) and he appears to be worse this morning. he was lethargic but also moved around quite a bitlike he was trying to get comfortable. He ate a little this morning and...

limping/favoring leg
Posted on 2008/03/05 by ElaineLate this morning we noticed that Tera was favoring her right hind leg. She had been in the backyard with our other dog, and we noticed it when she came in.I checked her paw pads for cuts, stickers, etc...didnt see anything. She now walks on just three legs and has the "hurt" leg hiked up in the air. Should I wait another day and see if it gets better, or should I take her to her vet to get it checked? Thank you!
