Itching & scratching

  • Itchy/bothersome tail

HI, I have a 8.5 year old male, neutered Australian Shepherd mixed dog. I am currently located in Grenada, but am from the U.S., as is my dog, Darwin. About 2.5 months ago he started what would be called a hot spot on his lower tail, close to his rump. He had a couple of these in his past, so we basically knew how to deal with them. Clip the hair, keep it dry, keep him from chewing on it. After a few days or trying, we were not having much luck keeping him from it, even with a cone and a wrap on his tail. We took him to the Vet Clinic here (St George's University Animal Hospital). To make a long story short, we have been 4 times to the vet over the past...

  • Dog's itch chin

Hi, I've noticed that my cattledog has been rubbing her chin on the grass quite a lot each day we go to the park. After inspecting, it seems she's rubbed small bits of her fur off as there are small exposed areas where you can see blood. Also she's been off her morning dry food which is very unusual, but is eating her afternoon wet food with the usual vigour. Other than that she's behaving normally. Any ideas?

  • cat advice please

My 18 month old tom cat is displaying symptomsof diarrhoea, lethargy and the white inner protective film on both eyes is not retracting properly and is more needy than usual. He is not off his food and still want to go outside regularly. He also seems to be chasing or looking at things that are not there. His ears are also very hot. Thanks for your help.

  • Westie fall allergies?

Yogi has been to the vet twice with what the vet says is just allergies, with no real explanation of what kind of allergies, fall, food, or other wise. I have switched his food to the purina proplan salmon and rice for healthy skin and been treating with medicine as recommended by the vet, but nothing seems to be helping. Could there be something else that would look like or act like allergies?

  • Walking problems for a week

I have a 8y/o Pekingnese and for the past week she has been having difficulty walking with her back legs. At first I just though she tweaked her back from jumping on and off the couch. Now she is better at times and then not good at other times (weird). Other symptoms are not eating, when she does walk back legs just going out from under her, hair falling out, after going outside or somtimes when petting her she just shakes/shivers bad. Any ideas on helping her?

  • swollen areas

I havea dog thats about 1 year old and she is a beagle and bloodhound mix (I think) She has developed swollen areas on her body that are moving all over from day to day. We have given her benadryl with no help over the past 36 hours. What is it? It does not appear to be painful to her as she still annoys my chocolate lab and runs around.

  • Hi, my name is Danielle and I have an almost 8 month old King Shepherd/ Lab cross. For the past 24 hours off and on she has been whining and pawing at her nose. She wears a halti and the problem started after we took the halti off after a walk. She got into the cat food two days ago and has started on new food (she was on Blue Buffalo large breed puppy and is slowly being put on Blue Buffalo wilderness from advice of our vet after loosing some muscle mass). She is also on flea and de worming medication (since november 9th). Could her behavior be indicative of a food allergy, general discomfort from her halti, or something else? Ive stopped giving her wilderness for now,...

  • Does Our Cat Have Stress?

Hi there, I have a cat whom we are guessing is about 4 or 5 years old. We have moved locations with our cat 3 times and are starting to notice unusual changes in its habits. Abers, our cat, is starting to bite himself to the point of excessive hair loss, he also has been losing excessive amounts of weight and not being his normal active self . We have tried compensating by feeding him both wet and dry food and it has helped some. In the past day we have discovered that Abers has bitten the end of his tail to the point of blood literally coming out over all the walls and carpets. You should also know Abers has not had his shots at all. As well, Abers lives in a house...
