Itching & scratching

  • Black Scab on my dog's neck

My dog Cooper itches a lot... our vet has no idea of what it could be except that "some dogs are just itchy". Yeah, he's no help. Anyways, my dog has recently formed this black scab about 2" in diameter on his neck on the left side. I washed him today and made sure to clean it up good -- it is kind of oozie but is black along the edges and pink in the middle. I washed it with a rag and he didn't flinch or yelp, I think it actually felt good. Any ideas?? He has had it since Sunday and we flea dropped him a week ago. It's been in the upper 80's all month as well.

  • My 12year old home cat suffered with a bad case of fleas 6months back we took her to our local vet and she had blood test which thankfully was all ok he gave her a cream and course of tablets and also had to wear a collar(bonnet)until the areas where her fur had come out had got better. Over the last 2months we took the bonnet off as it was stressing her out even more and was making her back paws, leg and stomach area very very sore as she could not clean herself. Recently it had got better but now she is suffering with scabs and sores on her leg area and back of the neck we try to bathe her and use the cream but is not getting better..We do use frontline combo on her...

  • Use of Revolution

I gave my Chihuahua (3 month old) Comfortis for flea control. Will it harm him to use Revolution on him? He now has ear mites.

  • Hi, my 3 year old cocker spaniel has been tested positive for E.Canis three times now. He's on doxycycline 100 mg tab once a day right now. The problem is he's been having a lot of skin allergies, and I think it's from the ticks biting him because he has several of those on him. Would it be ok to treat him with Frontline Top Spot while he is on doxycycline? He used to have a very high fever but I think that is under control since the start of the antibiotic but still suffers from loss of appetite (hardly eats)....please let me know if it would be ok to treat him with Frontline Top Spot to control the ticks while he is on treatment for ehrlichiosis....I also give him a...

  • My dog was neutered 5 days before. They gave a Elizabeth collar. They also gave a pain reliever medicine. Last night when I came back after walking my dog I found out that my dog has lost a good amount of hair on his lower part of his neck and was lightly bleeding. Can you please advice what could have caused it and if it is serious. Note: I have attached a picture. Thank you very much. Kiran

  • Scratching

My dog is not due for worming till the end of the month, however he seems to be scratching his bum quite reguarly and trys biting his bum aswell. Before i put him in his bed to sleep for the night, i let him out for a wee on the lead. When i bring him back in to his bed shutting the kitchen door, he starts crying and doesnt seem to stop. I then let him out on his own , watching him struggle to find a place to poo. He finally does poo after a period of time. He then settles down to sleep. In the mornings he crys aswell wanting to poo ( this could be at 3.30 in the morning ) and seems distressed. I dont know whether he has a problem with his glands, but would be honoured...

  • I am desperate to have my Dottie seen by a vet. She has open wounds and goop in both ears. She is getting aggressive when anyone touches her ears. I am willing to work off any money spent on the care of my Dottie. What can I do?

  • Sick Doggy

When my dog had puppies a few years ago her skin never stretched back into place, and even now it's still hanging, though I can clearly see her toned body through the sagging skin. Along with the sagging skin, she started itching and scratching and licking herself a lot, and her skin (legs, paws, ears, behind) turned red and raw and lost the fur in those areas. I've tried ointments, and shampoos, and just about everything I can get. I expected her to get better after awhile, perhaps maybe it was a seasonal thing, maybe she got into some weeds or something that was irritating her skin, but it's been quite awhile, and it still hasn't healed. These last couple of months...
