My mini goldendoodle, Bailey, was born July 2007 and was purchased from a reputable breeder at 8 wks of age. Has always exhibited infrequent vomiting and/or diarrhea, and scratching. After her 1 year birthday, the scratching became more pronounced and hair loss in clumps and allergies were suspected. A skin test shows Bailey allergic to several environmental factors and food was also suspect. The vet changed her from her regular diet of Wellness Puppy to IAMS Kangaroo & Oats which she stayed on for 12 weeks. We recently re-challenged the diet and 3 days later began the vomiting on a frequent basis either frothy bile or food. She can not keep any food down, not...

Cat with tail bite
Posted on 2009/02/16 by UserHI My cat was bitten on the base of its tail by another cat. I took him t the vet who cleaned him up and sent him home. The vet said if his tail doesn't start moving it will have to be amputated. The tail did start moving but the wound is still open on top. He keeps licking the ointment off and gnawing at the wound. He even took his own stiches out. I tried to take him to the vet again but was told that he wouldn't be able to see me until Saturday (its monday) and even then he scheduled me into a surgery spot because he thinks the tail has to be amputated. But the tail moves fine, and he hasn't even seen the cat!!!! He seems amputee happy and I do not want the vet...

Dog recently started scratching
Posted on 2009/03/28 by BillRecently, our 12 yr. old yellow lab, Fern, has started licking and scratching herself. Feet, belly and legs are all targets. No sign of fleas. Sometimes wakes us at night with the thumping. She eats IAMS dog food, and we recently started adding a teaspoon of safflower oil to her food for possible dry skin. Any ideas? Thanks!

Need help understanding
Posted on 2009/09/05 by TammyLet me start by saying that I am deeply saddened today, as our 10yr old sheltie passed this morning, we put him down. I am just trying to wrap my mind around why and find some comfort in the decision we made. About 2yrs ago he was diagnosed w/hypothyroid and an autoimmune disorder. He was immediately and on-going placed on thyroid medication and steroid therapy. in the past few weeks he began to become aggressive, had trouble finding a comfortable sleeping place, excessive panting, disoriented, aggression (even towards me), and while at the vet this week he began seizing. His blood work week before last showed high white blood cells and this week after being placed...

puppy has a fever
Posted on 2009/09/17 by Usermy puppy seems to be having a fever. he makes weird noises that sounds more like a sneeze or a cough, trying to get something out. i'm not sure what it is called, but the side nails on his back paws, well...one of them fell off, and the other one seems to be falling off. there is no bleeding and doesn't seem to have any kind of infection there. what can i do?

Our chihuahua has what appears to be a rash all over and it's making her very itchy. Just noticed it this morning as blotchy red areas on her stomach, but we think it is other areas too. Is there a home remedy for this, like a small dose of benadryl? We don't think she ate anything unusual nor had contact with anything that she normally doesn't.

Skin allergy from swimming?
Posted on 2007/12/14 by JamesBesides steroids what medications can be taken for generalized itching. This occurs after swimming near the chesapeake bay, but not when he is in a swimming pool. I've been told dogs can take Benadryl, but I don't know dosage. Also, how about Claritin?

partial paralysis
Posted on 2007/12/17 by PattersonMy 8 year old German Shepard became sick. I was gone and over the next two days and he became paralyzed. Front legs were really stuff, the back legs could move a little. I took him to a vet and took x-rays with no problems observed. Started him on an IV with antibiotics. I took him home after a couple of days and he is slowly getting better. If you pet or scratch his back along his spine, he will lose muscle function and sit down. At times he drags his left rear leg. At times he can not walk a straight line. After getting him back from the vet’s office, he could run up the driveway at approximately 6 mph. He is up to about 11 mph now and use to run at 16...
