Itching & scratching

  • recent unusual behavior

On 12-16-07 and 12-17-07 Abby started running from place to place to lie down for 2-10 minutes and then repeats. She seems to have a muscle quiver/spasm on left shoulder. I did put Seargent's tick, flea medicine on her on 12-15 and she did try to jump in a truck and fell off a few days ago, but she was fine till 5p.m. on 12-16.

my two female cats both have scabs all over and are losing hair mostly on their rear section. what is this?

  • Miserable Dog

My dog is about 15 years old. He normally gets very dry in the fall and winter but this year it has been especially bad. His skin is flaky and he has been itching so much that some of his exposed skin has turned black. He is half cocker spaniel and half golden retriever. I have given him a bath once or twice a week with Sulfodene and it seems to help for a day or two at most. When I bathed him I did notice 1 or 2 fleas but that's all I could ever find. What could this be? I have given him Brewer's Yeast pills to try to help with the skin condition but the success has been very limited. Is there anything else, short of taking him to a vet, that I can try?

  • Metal Allergy Possible?

My dog was diagnosed with allergies. She has been on an elimination diet for 2 months and still has itchy, red skin on forearms and chest. She wears a collar with a metal buckle and the rash is especially bad on her chest where the buckle and tags hang. Could she have a metal allergy? We have bought her a new collar today, minus the metal and only put it on when she goes out. Allergies are year round. The only thing that helps is steroids which are not good for her. What is the next step we should take? She also has a raised, pimple (boil?) on her neck. Since she went back to her old food, she is lethargic, vomiting bile and has no appetite. This has only been...

  • Seeds

My cat Roxy has these weird seed-like things that I notice after she has been laying on my bed or the couch. They look like the seeds from hamburger buns. I have had a big problem with fleas since I have lived in the apartment, but I am following the vets instructions to apply Advantage every 3 weeks, and keeping the place vaccuumed. I also had the pest control place come in and spray for fleas about 6 months ago. Any idea if this is related to the fleas or if it could be something else she needs to be treated for? Thank you!

  • My cat is an indoor kitty.A little more than three weeks ago,he got out in a severe storm. He was lost for three days but came home.He was dirty, lost a bit of weight but,in general, looked ok.I changed his food from dry to wet to help him gain his weight back.He had a small "normal"discharge from one eye, nothing significant.Six days ago, there was a marked change in his behavior. He will not come when called. He does not want to be held(this is a cat that stayed in my arms all day).He no longer sleeps with me as he did.He cried constantly to go outside. When I wouldn't let him,he urinated on a sofa(not a spray-saturated).He cleaned himself excessively(all over,not...
