After seeing a veterinary allergist, my German Shepherd was diagnosed with environmental allergies and atopic dermatitis. He has been on prednisone for the last year and has done well (no scratching, hot spots, goopy eyes, etc) and has flea treatments applied once a month. However, we were concerned with the drug's long-term effects and recently weaned him off. Although we bathe him every 3-5 days with Resicort as recommended by our vet, he's back to the incessant scratching, et al. We've tried changing foods, changing bedding, feeding Dynovite, giving him Benadryl, spraying him with Tea Tree Oil, but nothing has been as effective as the prednisone. Is our only other...

straining to urinate
Posted on 2008/02/27 by LauraMy Greyhound is at the vet quarantined because he nipped at a child but did not draw blood. That is not the issue. The vet just called to say he is straining to urinate. Would this have anything to do with being stressed out at being at the vet? He has been drinking a lot of water. They want to do X-rays and possibly surgery for bladder stones. I am supposed to bring him home tomorrow. Should I do this first and watch him for a couple of days to see if he is doing this at home?

sick possible liver issues
Posted on 2008/03/05 by Userhave a dalmation /akita mix. He has been increasingly ill, we brought him to the vet on Thursday and by Friday he became a patient. Blood taken on Thursday came back with high and low. His skin has been yellowing, no appetite except for once in awhile. They gave him antibiotics, vitamin B, steroids, and fluids all weekend and he is getting worse. We had a ultrasound done and they found abnormalities with his liver. They went with needle and they have no conclusive result. Is there anything else I can do to help him? We up'd his steroid to Pred.

new behaviors
Posted on 2008/03/06 by UserMy 1 1/2 year old female redbone coonhound has starting getting up in the middle of the night to urinate when she never did before and she has been crying and whining a lot. Not everyday but some in the last couple of weeks she has not felt like eating and she sometimes eats grass. Does anything come to mind other than seperation anxiety?

Cat overeating
Posted on 2008/03/09 by UserI have a 16 year old cat that eats 3-4 small cans of food plus dry food everyday. He also drinks a lot of water. He is very skinny and he doesn't gain weight. I can hear his stomach growling sometimes. What could be some causes for this?

cat cancer?
Posted on 2008/03/18 by crossinOur 14 year old female cat, who has been completely healthy to this point, began having increased water intake a few months ago. Last week she became very lethargic (even her meow and hiss were lacking normal energy), very needy (always wanting to cuddle, which is not typical for her personality), and had a very decreased appetite (she was eating, but only about 1/4 of what she would normally eat). A visit to the vet resulted in blood tests, urinalysis, and xray. We don't have specifics but can get them if needed. Vet said he would be looking at these possibilities: kidney disease/function problems, diabetes, and cancer, based on her symptoms. Well, she had a...

Bump on right side of stomach
Posted on 2008/03/20 by JessicaMy Pit Bull puppy is 7 weeks old. She had her 6 week shots. She eats fine and plays normal. Her only issue is she has to pee every hour. We noticed she has a bump on the right side of her stomach. It's about the size of a dime. After she eats a lot the left side of her stomach is considerably larger than the right side. Could the spot be a tumor on her bladder? Or is there another reason why she needs to potty so often instead of every 4-6 hours like other puppies her age?

Posted on 2008/03/24 by TamiHi There.... My cat was neutered 10 days ago,has a little eye stuff in one eye.The vet thinks conjunctivitis and gave eye medicine.Still went ahead and neutered him anyway..The first 3 or 4 days he was like him old self, but he has not been him old self this past week.He does not seem to go as much to the cat box and his urine is very strong.I am still giving him the eye cream after washing with a clean warm cloth each time( which he seems to like ).He is drinking lots of water, I gave him a little warm milk, he is eating dry kibble and just a little wet food, which I only give my 15 year old female cat,but he sometimes gets to it before I can put it up to where he...
