cat takes 10mg p/d prednisone to maintain asthma but must go to 20 mg. p/d when it flares up. Was diagnosed fall 06 with diabetes,(after a prolonged time on higher dose including shots) it cleared up after 2 mons. for over a year til now, even though she's has not been on any high dose for a couple of months. So i am thinking it MIGHT be here to stay. I've read about the honeymoon period information but am not sure if that applies to all diabetes or just more organic types. I felt last time I gave her insulin that often times it was too much. She never collapsed but she was acting wierd, stumbling etc. and it scared me. My questions are do any of the oral medication...

Dog vomiting in Africa
Posted on 2008/04/15 by UserHello. I am a Canadian now in Burkina Faso in Western Africa with limited access to a vet. My 5 year old lhasa abso/terrier started vomitting a lot food and water about a week ago. The vet here (with rusted tables and basic facilities) gave a treatment for antibiotics and de-worming (vermicannis) plus anti-vomiting injection (Vogolene) plus somthing to stimulate appetite since it had been 4 days that the dog stopped eating (after vomitting so much). The dog was dehydrated and would drink so much, then throw up the water so the vet gave injected syrum (water). She got better after the 5 day treatment then 2 days later, started vomitting again. I usually cook a small...

Dog unable to stand & head tilt
Posted on 2008/04/19 by UserMy dog is taking enalapril for his heart, a bronchodilator theo-dur, previcox for his arthritis & optimmune to produce tears for his eyes. His health has been declinging in the past year. In the past 6 mos, he only gets up to go outside & to eat. Which I contribute to loss of stability in his hind legs. I recently made a ramp to assist him in going outside which still required assistance by a family member. He's been vomiting off & on lately. Other than going outside to the bathroom & eating, he no longer mobile. This morning I went to assist him to go outside & noticed he had vomited & urinated on his area of the rug. He couldn't stand w/...

Is she in pain or suffering
Posted on 2008/06/05 by BrendaMy 7 year old shih tzu started having seizures on Christmas eve. She is on phenobarbitol for them. The vet I saw said the most likely cause is a brain tumor. The last few days she is drinking a lot more than usual. She is also utinating and having frequent bowel movements.I had her out twice this morning. I had to go out and she urinated on the floor. This is highly unusual for her. It is occuring more often. My suspision is kidney failure. My question is. Is she suffering? She doesn't show signs of pain but is getting a little crabbier. She normally has a great disposition. Just a little spoiled. She has now started panting when she needs to go out. This she has never...

Persistent diarrhea since Sunday
Posted on 2007/11/29 by UserMy dog has had diarrhea fairly constantly since Sunday morning. She has never had any major illnesses before and we are concerned. She has been to the vet and had blood tests done and has also been put on a drip to try and flush out her system. She continues to have diarrhea. The vet says that her liver is not a concern and, after initial x-ray, there appears to be nothing sinister. My dog still has an appetite. She has been drinking a fair amount of water and her faeces are very loose. There was a small amount of blood in her faeces this morning. Do you have any thoughts on what this could be?

back pain lethargy
Posted on 2008/01/30 by UserHI my dog was with my mom's husband and got hug by his leash over the fence - for a few minutes. He already had arthritis in is back. Now there seems to be a bump in his back and he is lethargic. Is his back just more sore or could this be something else? Also increased panting.
