My cat has an eye that is crusty and swollen. He also has many large mats in his fur that I cannot get rid of. Will his eye clear up on its own and how can I get rid of these mats, they have become very dirty.

I have a 6month old lab-mix puppy. I have just noticed over the past couple of days that his left eye has been particularly runny with a goopy discharge. He also itches alot but I don't believe that he has fleas because I have given him flea baths and combed him. I have read online that both of these symptoms could be because of an alergy. I have recently changed his food from the science diet that he was on at the shelter I adopted him from to Innova, an all natural dog food. Could this be causing a problem? Should I take him to the vet?

poorly cat
Posted on 2009/05/10 by Usermy cat was fine until today and has suddenly stopped eating after going outside last night. He is holding his mouth slightly open and does not purr when petted. He seems very lethargic, having not moved all day. His nose was pale this morning and his eyes, which are not fuly open, were slightly cloudy. His nose is slightly pinker now and his eyes not so cloudy, but he seems other ill. Any ideas on what this could be?

Chronic dry eye
Posted on 2007/12/12 by DavidBingo doesn't seem to be getting any lasting improvement with his "dry" eye. He's had this for about 1 year following an eye infection. The ointment coats his eye and crusty material appears the next morning. He's also being given antibiotic eye drops following the ointment (30 minutes.)

Drooping Right Side of Face
Posted on 2007/12/24 by PhylissJake is my 3yr.old Beagle. Lately he has been holding his head to the side, his mouth is drooping to that same side and his eye on that side looks strange. all of this is happening on his right side. His eye is drooping slightly and is a little blood shot. It looks to me as if he has had a stroke. He is moving around alright and is eating normally. No difference in his bowels or his routine. Could he have had a stroke without me knowing about it??
