Brewster (4 pound poodle) has been on Clavamox for a gum infection/bacteria for months. He takes the antibiotic for 10 days and smell and yellow goo clears up. Then 8-10 days the smell and yellow goo come back. Dental Cleaning and Blood work (kidney & Liver)are all good. Is there any natural/herbal or over the counter treatment I can give him to clear it up or give to make it longer in between giving the Clavamox? Please advise.

Posted on 2008/09/02 by Rebecca Abeymy cat is 16 years old and only has 2 proper teeth but this has never made any problems but now hes not eating/barely drinking and in the last couple of weeks has lost alot of weight and barely moves anymore. He also seems to have brown mucus coming from his nose and what i can only describe as black gritty stuff all over his body in his fur. He's also got 2 small lumps on his back but they don't seem to bother him. I'm really worried and want to take him to the vets but everyones telling me he's just old, should i be worried and take him to the vets?

Tooth Root Abcess in aging rabbit
Posted on 2008/05/01 by Cheryl GlossMy 12 year old rabbit has a tooth root abcess which the vet said would be too expensive and traumatic a surgery to put him through. In January she drained the puss from his cheek and put him on antibiotics. He had terrible diarreah on it but I gave it to him all the way through and cleaned him up everyday. He is old and has other health problems, Arthritis, blindness, etc. She suggested putting him down but I will not do it. He is enjoying his life, eating, drinking etc. But his eye is now excreting the same white substance from the abcess and I am cleaning the eye the best I can with eye solutions. Do you know of anything else I can do for him? If I call her she might su ...

Cat is pulling hair out
Posted on 2008/03/25 by Jamie ClarkHello, My cat Nanuuk has been chewing chunks off hair out almost everyday for over a month. He's ripping it out from the base of his tail, along both sides from his armpit to his belly and a little bit on his chest. It looks crazy and it seems like he can't help himself. Is this a sign of something serious? Outwardly, he seems to be doing well other than gum disease.... Thank you so much for your help!! Jamie

steroid induced diabetes
Posted on 2008/03/19 by anne mcdermottcat takes 10mg p/d prednisone to maintain asthma but must go to 20 mg. p/d when it flares up. Was diagnosed fall 06 with diabetes,(after a prolonged time on higher dose including shots) it cleared up after 2 mons. for over a year til now, even though she's has not been on any high dose for a couple of months. So i am thinking it MIGHT be here to stay. I've read about the honeymoon period information but am not sure if that applies to all diabetes or just more organic types. I felt last time I gave her insulin that often times it was too much. She never collapsed but she was acting wierd, stumbling etc. and it scared me. My questions are do any of the oral medication work ...

dental concerns
Posted on 2008/02/28 by UserMy 1 1/2 year old cat went to the vet for a teeth cleaning this morning after at her routine yearly exam it was discovered she had excessive tartar and plaque build up. A few minutes ago, the vet called to advise me to test for the feline leukemia virus as this may be a sign of the virus. Is this probable? What else may cause tartar buildup in such a young cat? She is playful, eats well, and no other signs of any diseases, does have some signs of crust around her nose though as if a runny nose. I have 3 other cats that are all 5 months older than her, and all indoor cats. Any advice? I'm going crazy waiting for the test results and her phone call!

teeth
Posted on 2008/02/22 by Vanessa VanderhavenKooki is 13 years old. Last night I noticed that some of her teeth are missing and most of the rest are rotten and her gums are red. I am wondering if it is best to have them pulled or put her down. I am not willing to spend thousands of dollars to fix her teeth.

Can Revolution cause poor liver function and cause excessive water consumption?
Posted on 2008/02/19 by Williamson ThomasI have a West Highland White TERRIER - WEIGHS 24 lbs. He's almost 7 years old. Last summer he developed major gum problems about 2 months after having his teeth cleaned for the second time in his life. He has been on "Revolution" for the past few years 10 months out of the year. The vet put him on Denamarin since a blood test showed lower liver funtions then what he should have. He was drinking 6 to 7 cups of water in a 24 hour period. After being one the Denamarin now for 4 months his water consumption is down consistently for over 2 months to 2 to 3 cups of water per 24 hour period. I think that the Revolution is causing his liver situation (a side ef ...
