Coco is a rescue I have adopted. Before I got her, she was diagnosed with Bronchitis, and was given Zeniquin. The antibiotics were done as of September 2, but she still has a bad coughing fit about 3 to 4 times a day that can go on for 10 minutes or so. I can't take her to the same vet, as she was transported across province to me, so am looking for advice. Have tried an expectorant cough syrop to clear out the congestion, am wondering if I should switch to cough suppressant, or whether she needs more antibiotics. She is eating well, and drinking, but when she exerts herself, she brings on coughing fit, but does play a bit each day. Seems to have no breathing...

Strong unpleasant smell
Posted on 2007/12/19 by donnaSmartie sometimes coughs but this is not problematic, she has had a swelling to her left side towards her back leg and slightly to the underside of her body. This does not appear to cause her pain even when touched. Apetite most often higher than usual but exercise and toiletting no problems. She does not clean herself as regularly and emitts a permanent strong unpleasant smell alikened to a human with bad breath but the smell emits from the whole of her body not her mouth. Do you have any suggestions re action to take or is there any likely medical problem?

Sometimes my dog will start breathing strangely. It sounds like she is trying to cough or gasp and it is quite loud. It lasts for about 10-15 seconds and then it stops. She does this once or twice a week. If she was a cat, I would say she is hacking up a hairball. What could be cuasing this?

My cat is 5 months old and I got him at the local resue center. WHen I got him he would cough occasionly and sneeze when he got into corners. I took him to the vet and they took blood and said that his eosinophil count was high. They gave him a corticosteroid shot which helped for a couple of days. It has now been a couple of weeks later and he still coughs. Last night he coughed (non-productive) for 20 minutes. He did have slightly fast heart rate. No weight loss or difficulty eating. I am unsure of what to do next. Thanks!

kennel cough
Posted on 2008/02/26 by UserI recently adopted a 5 month old kitten; have had her about a week. Saturday I noticed my 2 dogs having sneezing and coughing and what sounded like gagging. The kitten was healthy according to the shelter. Could she have brought something from the shelter and my dogs contracted it...like kennel cough?

New kitten
Posted on 2008/03/19 by UserMy family just started taking care of an orpheaned baby kitten. We feed her when she crys and she seems to be gaining the weight needed to gain by internet standards. We excrete her poo and keep her warm all the time (She's about 2-3 weeks old) I wonder when my family should take her to the vet. It seems to me like she coughs too often... and i'm worried that this could be something serious. What symptoms should we look for to make sure that she's not getting seriously sick.

My cat was stray which i brought up on artificial milk as his mother deserted him. He is my baby literally but I have a yard which he loves to stay in and of course other cats come. He started sneezing and coughing nearly sick sometimes so I got the vet. He injected him with steroids and antibiotic and told me to give him antibiotics orally for seven days. What can you tell me about this medication and will my Gizzy survive this. I'm really worried as he hasn't touched anything for days and is really lethargic. Looks miserable and in pain most of the time. Thanks

Older Dog with a Nasty Cough
Posted on 2008/09/06 by JackieHi, my dog has a hacking cough that started last night. The cough is coming from deep in his body, and he keeps almost coughing something up. A friend said he might have a hair ball and that I could administer the same hair ball treatment that you would give to a cat. Is this true? Does this sound like the issue with my dog? He is fine when he is not coughing; he plays and wants to walk; he is eating and drinking, although he may be drinking a bit more than usual. He has not vomited, although it appears as though he is trying to cough something up.
