we have a 10 week old lhasa that has discharge from his nose, has slowed down in activity, do pyppies get the equivelent of the human cold? could this be the issue and what needs to be done?

Excessive licking
Posted on 2008/03/29 by SuzieI have a 1.5 year old Maltese named Tiger. He constantly licks and licks the air (looks as if he just ate peanut butter, but he didn't) and sometimes his paws or us. Is this OK? I don't want to take my dog to the vet for "licking air" but it's so excessive I am starting to worry. Another worry is that he has a "goose honk" cough. It always happens after he drinks water but I was told that it is normal. But now he does it when he's not drinking water. It only happens like once a day, but I don't know how many times a day it should happen before I should start to worry. Since he is a Maltese, he used to have tear stains from his eyes, they...

Beagle with allergy?
Posted on 2008/04/03 by ErinOur 2.5 yr old beagle mix Daisy snorts, licks her feet, coughs occasionally, has watery eyes, and generally just seems to have allergies. But sometimes, she'll go into a licking frenzy, snort (not reverse sneezing), swallow, and spit up white mucus. During this frenzy she will eat any fuzz or anything else on the floor (something she doesn't normally do). It's almost like she's trying to clear her nose of mucus and swallow it. If I put her in her crate she will lick the floor of it or the sides. If I hold her she'll try and lick/eat my hair or just lick the air. These episodes can go on for hours. Puppy won't gain weight
Posted on 2008/04/13 by genawe recently adopted a puppy from an animal shelter. we have had her for about 3 1/2 weeks, she was kind of skinny when we got her and even though we feed her regularly, 3 small portions a day is what our vet said to do, she doesn't seem to be gaining any weight. last night when we gave her a bath she shed an unusual amount of hair and today her nose has been running the same way as a persons does. what can i do? please help. she is 5 1/2 months old.

Posted on 2008/05/27 by UserMy 3 year old black lab has had excessive drooling, swollen eyes, not able to chew his food, change in bark,not breathing well, and he has been hacking for about 2 weeks. I took him to the vet last week and they said he had kennel cough and gave him antibiotics and cough supressants. It seems like his symptoms are getting worse, could it be something else?

Weight loss and swollen legs and...
Posted on 2008/08/25 by M.E.Abby appears to have lost weight in the last 2 or 3 weeks, yet her front legs appear to have swollen. Her eyes also have had lots of yucky matter that I wipe out once or twice a day. She cough ocassionally, but not excessively. The vet recommended switching from Beneful because of my other dog licking a lot, he thought it might be a reaction to the colors in it. They had been on half and half of beneful and iams rice and lamb for the last couple of weeks. I've gone back to just beneful, because Beau didn't noticably change his behaviour, and Abby was losing so much weight.

Allergies or a 3 month old kennel cough?

I have an 18 month old Pitbull, we adopted her about 3 months ago and found out she had kennel cough, they said it would go away and it didnt, we took her back and they gave her a bordatella shot to boost her immune system and some cough pills! they did help but now she has started gaging and had come mucus out of her nose when she does sneeze and some morning she has white discharge around her eyes! She is as energetic as ever and eats and drinks well, except for her potty training shes great!, Could It be alergies, can i give her anything or what could it be?and what should i do?

bronchitis
Posted on 2008/09/12 by UserCoco is a rescue I have adopted. Before I got her, she was diagnosed with Bronchitis, and was given Zeniquin. The antibiotics were done as of September 2, but she still has a bad coughing fit about 3 to 4 times a day that can go on for 10 minutes or so. I can't take her to the same vet, as she was transported across province to me, so am looking for advice. Have tried an expectorant cough syrop to clear out the congestion, am wondering if I should switch to cough suppressant, or whether she needs more antibiotics. She is eating well, and drinking, but when she exerts herself, she brings on coughing fit, but does play a bit each day. Seems to have no breathing...
