Hi, my cat seems to be working on a hairball. She has been retching a bit since Sunday and has not yet been able to cough it up. She seems to be breathing kind of rapidly, but just ate and went to the bathroom. Is it time to take her to the vet? Or should I give her more time to work this out on her own?

Is it time to go to the vet?

I have a cat that is 5yrs old. She has been to our local vet clinic and they can not find anything wrong with her. She is coughing, sneezing, discharge of clear slime from her mouth. She is not eating or drinking. Now back from vacation, she is worst. Her back legs are useless, she creeps with them. Our local vet had bloodwork done and claims there was nothing showing up. I now do not believe them. They prescribed a laxatone for her to take, when that was not working, I called and asked for an antibodiac. That seemed to help. She has thick substance coming out her eyes, which are now closed shut. Help. I do believe I am losing my cat.

Roswell coughs occasionally and at the end he seems to gag like he's trying to cough something up. He is healthy otherwise. He has a good appetite. Does this just come with getting older or could it be a problem?

Our 7 year old mix breed dog has been coughing since November. We've had him on prednisone and 2 different kinds of antibiotics with no luck in clearing it up. He did seem to be getting over it when we were coming back home from Indiana from the holidays. Took him into the vet yesterday and they did blood work on him which showed he had a very high white blood cell count. They did more x-rays and he's got some blurry white areas around his lungs. Left side is worse than the right. Nothing was wrong with his stomach. His x-rays have changed since the first set was ran. They did say his liver was a little large mostly due to the prednisone. They have no idea what...

when to say when...
Posted on 2008/03/06 by UserUser says: Shelby has been around the Lab/hound mix dog I have named Amelia all day all the time. They share everything. She shows no signs of this. Shelby started this 3 days ago and it was light caugh. Can this just come out of nowhere? she has not been around other dogs ever except Amelia. Is there a point where I stop letting nature runs its course. Is there a final time that its take her in because nature is not gonna work it out of her on its own? she is full of spunk, wants to play even with the caugh, I have been trying to keep her calm and resting. I have seperated her from Amelia. I did take a non-needle syringe and gave her some alcahol free nyquil like...

allergy, infection, or both?
Posted on 2008/03/07 by ErinHi, I have a question about my female beagle mix. We got her from the humane society back in Sept. of '07. She always had a little bit of a snort which we were told was probably an allergy. She also licks her feet a lot, licks her tummy, has watery eyes, and has a bald spot on the underneath side of her neck. One day about mid Nov. she out of the blue began frantically licking the floors and eating anything (hair, fuzz.. etc.) she could get her mouth on. This went on for a few weeks off and on and could last for hours. She would kind of snort and swallow continuously like she was clearing her sinuses, then lick frantically and cough up mucus. I've had her to several...
