Coughing

  • steroid induced diabetes

cat takes 10mg p/d prednisone to maintain asthma but must go to 20 mg. p/d when it flares up. Was diagnosed fall 06 with diabetes,(after a prolonged time on higher dose including shots) it cleared up after 2 mons. for over a year til now, even though she's has not been on any high dose for a couple of months. So i am thinking it MIGHT be here to stay. I've read about the honeymoon period information but am not sure if that applies to all diabetes or just more organic types. I felt last time I gave her insulin that often times it was too much. She never collapsed but she was acting wierd, stumbling etc. and it scared me. My questions are do any of the oral medication...

  • Vomiting after eye surgery

Hi, Recently, my chow chow had both of her eyes done due to her loose skin on her upper and lower part of her eyes. The recovery is great but she's been vomiting after the surgery. I told the vet and he suggested that I starved her for 24 hours, during that time she was allowed for water consumption. Then, on that same night, she vomited about 6-7 times within 4 hours. The color of the vomit is watery + light brown color. I went to the vet the very next day and he puts her on some mucous medicine + anitbiotics and that day, she threw up about 3 time with 3 hours. To make the long story short, she's currently in the hospital and the vet is "flushing" her system using...

  • Coughing Dog

Hello- My 17 mo old Chesapeake Bay Retreiver has been "coughing" for the past couple of days. It is not constant but happens more when she is active and seems more like she is trying to gag something up (if that makes any sense) She hasn't had any exposure to other dogs and it doesn't seem like kennel cough but I don't know. Any ideas? I''m trying to see if there is something I can do at home for her before having to make a Vet appt. Thanks! Jennifer

  • Chow had stomach ulcer

My chow chow just had a stomach ulcer surgery about 5 days ago. Her recovery has been good so far but yesterday, my vet try to give her a little bit of Royal Canin Recovery can food but she vomited. She has been on IV fluids and anti biotics, Could there been any viral infections or simply that the stomach is still in its healing process and is still too early to give her can food? Please advise.

  • cat gagging

Luci' my male cat has been very lethargic lately, is having some loss of appetite, and is gagging. When he gags he makes this horrible hocking sound and it sounds like he may be experiencing some trouble breathing.

  • I have a One and a half year old ShihZu, I just noticed that his belly button is poping out.

  • Quick and bizarre death

My 15 month old miniature piebald dachsund recently died. We let him out before bed with our labrador to go to the bathroom. When I went to let back in, he didn't come. We found him out in back yard heaving. Brought him in and he was having a hard time breathing but kept trying to vomit and had a little diarrhea. My husband stayed up until 3:00am, to make sure he was going to be o'kay and he wagged his tail and seemed to be doing much better. I found him at 6:00 am and he was dead. What could have happened? He never had a big appetite and would do this hacking cough everynow and then. A couple of times, while growing up, I noticed he would heave and seemed to...

  • My new puppy (5 months old)came to us with more flea's than puppy. So my husband and I put a flea medication on his back, I used the Hartz brand for his size. Now my puppy has bumps all over his back, the fleas seem to be gone bot his entire back is covered in smaller than a pea sized bumps. Do you think this is an allergic reaction. Is there anything at home I could do to help them go away. Please help he looks so bad. Thank you

  • My Beagle won't eat his food today and keeps falling asleep on the couch. He seems extremely lethargic. We ran around with him yesterday, he ate well, etc. But today he's a different dog. What could cause something so sudden? I'm worried.
