Let me start by saying that we are deeply saddened that our 10 yr old sheltie passed yesterday, with the advise of our vet we decided to put him downn, and I am simply looking for a more definitive reason. 2 yrs ago he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and hypothyroid. He was placed on long term steroid therapy and thyroid meds, which he seemed to immediately respond, including dropping about 10lbs. Posted on 2009/09/07 by UserI just adopted a pet from the local animal shelter and she has been sneezing the past couple of days and last night she felt a little warm and was having a pretty runny nose last night also. this morning she seems to be more congested and her nose sounds congested she breaths though her mouth and kind makes a sound like a horse every once in a while. she is still eating and drinking but I just noticed that she had some discharge from her nose that was not clear it was white. can I give her something should I take her to a pet hospital any help on what to do for her.

Posted on 2009/09/08 by UserMy 2 1/2 year old gerbil has been acting very strange for the last day. He is usually very active and curious but has suddenly lost his appetite, isn't drinking much, is spending all day in his bed with his eyes 3/4 closed and i think he's breathing heavier than normal. Please help, he won't even eat sunflower seeds. I don't think he has diarrhea but i dont know how to check for this. He also has epilepsy. I wll be taking him to the vet later but my mum will be out until the evening. what can i do to care for him until she gets back?

cat breathing
Posted on 2009/09/08 by LizWe have just gotten a feral cat which we are bringing to the vet tomorrow, for the first time. The person who gave him to us was feeding him outside for abut two years and noticed for about year or more he was breathing funny. He breathes funny not from his nose or mouth, but in his stomach area/side of body. It is very evident when he sleeps on his side. Our other cat breathes slow and steady when he sleeps, and its not noticeable when he stands, but this cat seems to breathe deep and hard when he sleeps as well as when he is doing anything else. He is about two years old, and otherwise health and very happy.We are very worried. thank you!

dog at chocolate chip cookies
Posted on 2009/09/09 by CherylTiny ate about 12 chocolate chip cookies sunday afternoon. He has been eating dinner and snacks. He was also playful and cheery before we got ready for bed. I was trying to figure out what was bothering him and discovered his ears were warm and his abdomen is hard and possibly bloated. I was wondering if i had to take him in or if i can give him something over the counter as i don't have very much money on me. he weighs about 63 pounds.

Posted on 2009/09/09 by nazhi, i am a new college student and i just got my dog from the shelter, he is 4 months old according to the vet, labrador-pitbull mix. i took him to the vet because he threw up twice and made barfing motions. his shots are all done and he is microchipped, he got neutered before i got him but they never removed the stitches and they are still there. i don't know what to do. the vet gave him worm medication, even tho they wasn't sure of he had worms, which i used for three days and yesterday was the last day. he was feeling better until today. the vet also said that he had a little bit of fever, nothing to worry about though. now he sleeps all the time, he did not eat...

Whats wrong with my canary?
Posted on 2009/09/16 by UserMy Canary has been making strange Clucking and squeaking sounds since yesterday, I recently got him back from my Ex-boyfriend and I don't think he looked after him properly. When he came to live with me he had a bald spot on the nape of his neck and two weeks on he started making the sounds I mentioned and also puffing himself up more than usual and also breathing faster - he just doesn't seem himself at times, more inactive. I took him to the vet after I heard the sounds and she treated him for mites and worms. He also seems to have gone through a moult - it’s starting to get cold here. Should I be concerned about that too? Thank you, Eve (Durham, England)

Allergies or wrong diagnosis?
Posted on 2009/09/18 by UserMy chihuahua has been reverse sneezing ever since I purchased her, but only when she was excited. For the past 2 weeks she has been reverse sneezing and sneezing constantly. Her nose is running, her breath smells horrible (and it normally doesn't). She paws at her head every few hours. I took her to a vet on monday and she said that the dog had allergies and prescribed an antihistamine. The dog has been receiving it twice a day and still hasn't gotten any better. I feel like she's getting worse. And fighting for air. My boyfriend just purchased a puppy 2 weeks ago. Is it possible that my dog is allergic to the puppy? Now the puppy has been sneezing and reverse sneezing....
