  • Let me start by saying that we are deeply saddened that our 10 yr old sheltie passed yesterday, with the advise of our vet we decided to put him downn, and I am simply looking for a more definitive reason. 2 yrs ago he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and hypothyroid. He was placed on long term steroid therapy and thyroid meds, which he seemed to immediately respond, including dropping about 10lbs. Within the last several weeks has at time become disoriented, aggressive, and within the last two weeks at times having difficulty getting up on his own and during these times when he does get to his feet it's almost like he doesn't know where he is, ie. ask him if he...

  • My 2 1/2 year old gerbil has been acting very strange for the last day. He is usually very active and curious but has suddenly lost his appetite, isn't drinking much, is spending all day in his bed with his eyes 3/4 closed and i think he's breathing heavier than normal. Please help, he won't even eat sunflower seeds. I don't think he has diarrhea but i dont know how to check for this. He also has epilepsy. I wll be taking him to the vet later but my mum will be out until the evening. what can i do to care for him until she gets back?

  • I found my cat, Snowflake, yesterday in the backyard (we have nearly an acre), completely wrapped up in the netting of the full-sized batting cage. When I reached her, she had wrapped the netting around her neck several times and was completely stuck. She obviously had struggled to get out and had ensconced herself into the netting more each time. I was able to cut her out of the netting. Since then, she has been acting almost as if she is plagued by PTSD. Last night, her eyes were swollen and the eye sockets (not the eyes themselves) were red. She is very lethargic, was breathing very heavily early on last night, but then got to the point where she was breathing...

  • cat has urinary problems

My dads 15 year old cat has been having problems using the litter box? Can it be FUS? She is also slightly over weight for a indoor cat. What can we do

  • My 16 year old cat has recently begun waking me up several times a night (every 2-3 hours) to be fed. Two years ago she had a large tumor removed from her tongue, resulting in a loss of about 30%. Since then, she'll only eat soft cat food, so I have to get up and feed her. Could she be going senile? Is there something else going on?

  • 7yr old male chihuahua

My 7 yr old chihuahua has been panting & scratching excessively since yesterday. He's restless & kept me up most of the night scratching & wining. The inside of his ears are red & fell warm to the touch along w/the pads of his feet. How long should I wait before taking him to the vet?

  • Maltese acting unusual

I gave my dog (Maltese 10yrs) mariquitas (fried banana chips) the other day. He has now been acting very timid and will not let anyone in my family go near his stomach without snapping at them. Last night he threw up chunks of food and then proceeded to lick his bed and the wall profusely. Not sure if the bananas were what upset his stomach or if it even has anything to do with it. At this point Im unsure of what to do?
