My labrador retriever's gums have some white pale color on them. The white pale spots are not everywhere on his gums though. He also scratches himself a lot. A few days ago he vomited twice. What should I do?

our cat teddy had a cancerous mass in his gi tract removed about 5 weeks ago. he is on prednisone and leukeren. he is doing very well. he is eating and drinking alot and had gained almost a pound and a half since the surgery. he needs to have blood work every month to see how he is responding. he had his blood work done on monday and his red blood cell count was 16 and the dr said that was low compared to when he had it done in january when it was 22. the dr in orchard park where he had the surgery thought he might have a small gi bleed and was going to do an fecal occurt blood test but he said he would rather test his blood every 48 hours to see it the count goes back...

Our cat Teddy had surgery for an intestinal blockage, all went well. The blockage was caused by a lymphoma node. We are giving Teddy Leukeran 2mg every other day and a daily dose of Prednisolone 5mg. Now all of a sudden he has stopped eating. His gums are not pink and we are now giving him Procrit 2ml on the off days of the Luekeran. The doctor believes it is anemia, thus the Procrit. What would make Teddy stop eating all of a sudden when he was eating at least 4 - 5 times a day his hard and soft food? Also, how long does it take for the Procrit to kick in? Your friends in NY, Julie and Dave

Medical mystery...
Posted on 2009/04/06 by UserHello! I have a 9 year old lab. He has been sick for over a week, in and out of the vet, lots of test, and no clear answer. He started with a slight limp (that rapidly got worse in a matter of a few short days) after a lot of playing and running around outside, Not eating, High fever, and Swollen lymthnodes.I thought that hewas a little sore from playing so much outside (more than normal the days before this started) They were going with Lymes, the test for that came back borderline possitive!?They started him on steroids and 2 antibiotics. He was making daily progress and I thought we were on the road to recovery. He was acting like his normal self this morning and...

liver problem?
Posted on 2009/04/21 by UserMy 13 yr old chow is scheduled for an ultrasound to check liver because blood samples came back suggesting possible hepititus or tumor on liver. If tumor, should it be removed and if so what will his quality of life be like either way. If it is hepititus can that be cured and treated with pills/injections? Because of his foul bad breath that has just popped up could it just be an absessed tooth and toxins are flowing from that to his blood stream causing his blood cells/platelets to be extremely high? I love him dearly and want only the best life for him. Please advise

my cat is dying from inflammed bowel dieses.
Posted on 2009/05/14 by UserMy cat was fine until I began treating her with Cosequin for her arthritis. She started throwing up and having diarheaa. I stopped the Cosequin. My cat underwent an endoscopy and was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel diesese. The prednisone managed the vomiting and the diarheaa. I started back on the cosequin and she had diarheaa again. I stopped the cosequin and the vet put her also on tylesin, which didn't help, and then prescribed Leukeran. She started to produce dark stool on her first dose and she stopped eating. The vet prescribed the appetite stimulate mirtazapine. A couple of hours later and she was crying, couldn't stay still, stumbling everywhere. I...

White and Red Blood Cell Count
Posted on 2009/05/14 by KristyMy poor kitty has more issues. Schooley finally had a dental yesterday. I had to save up for $800. He had dental xrays, upper and lower canine teeth pulled on the left side and one lower front tiny tooth. Upper canine was already broken ( he came that way) but was worn down, the lower canine was totally loose as was the tiny front tooth. He had plaque on the left side on most teeth and the jaw bone on that side was a little infected. Was given a convenia inj and has buprenex at home. Past history: he has allergies and a pellet in his hip muscle. Schooley has been on prednisolone 5mg once daily since Feb 09 and that helps a lot for both. Did not get him allergy...

Canine Lung Cancer
Posted on 2009/07/24 by UserApologoies if this is a repeat.... 11.75 year old Aussie diagnosed last Sat with lung cancer (not primary) after collapsing due to wild anemia/internal bleeding. Got IV Prednisone, made it through the night (against Vet's prediction). Since Sunday back on his feet, energy up, cough almost gone, and breathing almost normal it seems. Not 100%, but truly shocking, given what vet thought, that he is here with me now. On Pred. and Pepcid. What can I expect from here? Can I trust him to tell me what he can and cannot do (with human reason applied)? Thoughts on adding doxycycline to his regime?

Vomiting, weakness & acting drunk, elevated liver enzymes & bile acids, gets better than wors
Posted on 2009/09/19 by UserPorkchop (2yo Bulldog) started over 2 weeks ago w/ severe vomiting out of nowhere. Lead to coughing up mucous, sometimes bloody, and then a bad nosebleed in his sleep. He aspirated and got pneumonia- put on 2 antibiotics for stomach irritation & pneumonia. Ran blood and found elevated liver enzymes. Also slight anemia. He got much better, and seemed fine. We ran blood again and bile acid to be sure- enzymes still elevated but lower than before, and the bile acids were high- anemia was gone. Vet suggested liver being damaged by phenobarbital & potassium bromide, which he has been on for epilepsy since 4 months. Made appt. to see neurologist next week to make...
