Rats

  • ill rat

i have a dumbo rat who is about 1 and a half years old. over the last few weeks she has developed small lumps over her body, not like the fatty lumps my previous rats have got. she seemed a bit bloated so i took her to the vet on wednesday who said he could only find one growing lump and she should be fine for now. but since then she has deteriorated quite a bit her weight is hanging off her bones, she is more tired and weak. she is still interested in food even though she is struggling to eat more solid items and is still coming out of her cage. i dont want to just give up but having many pets before, i recognise the pattern and wonder if i should take her back to end...

  • poorly rat

hi my pet rat for the last 3 weeks has been treated for mites with ivermectin by my vet, i re-introduced him to his cage mates on friday, but since then he has gone down hill his skin is red again & he has ripped his ear somehow, also i have been on at my vet as his breathng has been funny but my vet says his chest is clear he doesn't have any red mucus around his eyes or nose. could his cage mates be picking on him? as he has never been an adventurous rat. please help. i am going to get him into the vets tomorrow but i don't think they now much about rats.

  • My rats

I have 2 female rats that will be a year old in February. They are the first rats i have owned so i am still learning about them. One of them started sneezing a few months ago and does it often now but her appearance or behavior hasn't changed a bit. My other rat makes a funny noise every so often when she breaths that is hard to describe but also acts normally and doesn't appear to be sick. Is this something i should worry about? I don't have much money to pay for vet bills but will if necessary because i have become quite a rat lover. Thank you- Josh

  • pet rat

I have a pet rat who is about 18 months old, yesterday I noticed that her left front paw is swollen and she is keeping it hitched up. If she knocks it it isn't really bothering her but she is not using it at all. It is slightly red but very swollen to about 3 times its normal size. Any idea what it could be, is it common or do you think I need to take her to see somebody? Thanks.

  • Rat has noisy breathing

Hello, My rat is 10 months now. He makes a funny clicking/squeaky noise when breathing, like he's got a blocked nose, mostly when he gets over excited during play time; just this one time he was making the same noise when he was sleeping. I know it's from his nose as the noise continues when he's eating, it's not bruxing either. I had a listen to his chest and there's no wheezing or laboured breathing. Apart from that he's behaving and eating/drinking normally. Is there something I should be worried about? The other rat, his brother, is fine. Thank you very much for your time.

  • Sneezing baby rat

My baby rat of 9 weeks has started to sneeze every so often. I have also found little spots of red on her bedding, don't know if it's blood because it's very light in color. We have recently got her a new cage mate, would that be causing her stress and causing the sneezing? or could she have respiratory disease? Please help!

I have a new pet rat, and when I take her out of her cage, she doesn't want to be anywhere other then in my neck/hair. Should I be worried?
