guinea pig leaning to one side, twitching
Posted on 2009/05/11 by JaneHi, I'm in work at the moment and have just had a phonecall from my sister saying one of our guinea pigs is acting strangely... she says that his head/body is leaning to the right and that his head is constantly twitching.... and that he's staying still (he usually runs about quite a lot). I have made him an appt at the vets but this is only at 5 because I'm in work (my sister can't get to the vets because she can't drive) but now I'm worrying!!! Any idea what this could be? Thanks, Jane

bitten guinea pig
Posted on 2009/04/13 by BevI put two of my female guinea pigs in a run together and they had a fight, Ellie got bitten on the side of her mouth, it bled a little and looked as if it really hurt her, she was in shock for a bit but is still eating. i have anti biotics for guinea pigs already, do i give her that? or does she need to go to the vet for other medication?

Thanks for Answering
Posted on 2009/04/07 by JenThanks for answering my question, I really appreciate it. Velma seems to be improved, she is now putting weight on her foot and moving around. I'm taking her to a vet in another town just to be on the safe side today. I just want to make sure there's nothing else wrong with her. About the bedding, I currently use cedar and put the carefresh on top of it. I live in a very small town, and cedar and pine bedding are the only ones available to me here. When I can make it to Petco 60 miles away, I do pick up the carefresh, but usually can only afford it once in a while. So I'm kind of limited on my bedding choices...

Depressed guinea pig?
Posted on 2009/04/03 by BevCookie is almost 5 years old now and recently recovered from URI and is eating and drinking, but ive just noticed that she looks really misserable, all she wants to do is sit there staring into space instead of running round with my other guinea pigs, her eyes are slightly more closed than usual, is she ill again or is she dipressed?

my guinea pig isnt eating
Posted on 2009/03/29 by Bevmy guinea pig has recently recovered from an illness and now she is off her food. The vet advised me to syringe feed her, and i have been doing for a few days, grating apples and pairs making them as watery as i can, every so often she will nibble on lettuce or grass but mostly getting fed from a syringe. I am worried that she will not get back to eating on her own and getting fed by a syringe for the rest of her life as it stresses her out everytime i feed her. Is there any chance that she will start eating by herself again, and if not, could someone suggest a food that i can syringe feed her that will fill her up as she is beginning to lose weight.

ill guinea pig
Posted on 2009/03/21 by BevI have a 5 year old female guinea pig, it has a stickey eye and it keeps rocking backwards and forwards, and when it breathes, it sounds like it has a whistley nose. These are the same symtoms that my other guinea pig had that died a few weeks ago, i am not sure what it is and im worried that the same happens again.

Scratching
Posted on 2009/03/12 by UserI have a guinea pig who i have had for about 3 weeks. She deveoped a small bald patch on her shoulder & dandruff. i took her back to the shop and they said she had mites and gave her a treatment across the back of her neck to kill them off. They said to stop her scratching at the dry bald area i had to keep it moist using vaseline. i'm doing this, but she is still scratching occasionally making it bleed. it is looking better as it isn't dry out & some hair is starting to grow back but is there anything i can do or put on it to stop her scratching as i think she is making it sore.
