Re-occuring "sore" on ferret
Posted on 2009/06/30 by UserI have a 3 year old female ferret. She has this re-occurring sore on the right side of her abdomen. It looks like some type of bite--it is a red circle with a dried-blood scab. I brought her to my vet the first time it occurred. (This was in May.) He ruled out fleas and said it might be some sort of scrape that she obtained while crawling along something. He didn't give me anything to put on it and said it should heal in a few days. I went home and put Neosporin on it. Shortly after, it began to look much better and healed in about 3-4 days. It looked like a very small puncture wound (small red, circular dot on her skin) after it had completely healed. It has now come...

My ferret is dying and in terrible pain but there is no vet that will treat him.
Posted on 2009/06/19 by UserAbout six years ago one of my family members left a ferret with me because he could no longer take care of him. I have managed to keep him healthy and happy until this past year. He began developing cists around his mouth and they quickly grew so large they broke the skin. With no vets in the area that treat ferrets we did the best we could for him. Despite our efforts to keep the wounds clean they became infected. We got antibiotics for him but it only slowed the process and now he is running a high fever and the entire area around his mouth is rotting. I know the only option is to put him down but without a vet what should I do?

Ferret concern
Posted on 2009/03/13 by UserHey, I have a small question in regards to my ferret. He is a male, recently I have noticed some hair being lost in the area above the tail (on the back). If you move the hair around it there is a bald spot. He has been scratching a little bit more and I am concerned about him. There have not been any noticeable changes in behavior other than the scratching. I'm concerned whether it is adrenal disease or not. Thank you very much.

Ferret potty trained
Posted on 2009/03/12 by EmmanuelWe have a new ferret and he has been with us only 1 week and as soon as we got him we bought him everything he needed to be comfortable like his food etc and we also bought a little ferret box so he can do his business but as the days went by he never! used it, its still new he goes anywhere!! but the box we though that he would eventually go he just needed to warm up to it and to us, but he hasn't went and he just uses it to play! what can we do to train him to go in the box because i dont want to have to keep cleaning and hunting to find where else he marked and i dont want my room to be filled and stinky with poop! what can i do????
