Sheltie agressive toward older dog
Posted on 2009/09/06 by UserMy Sheltie grew up with our older American Eskimo. Now, the Eskie is almost 15 and the Sheltie is 4. Most of the time, the Sheltie is so sweet, and the dogs get along well. However, it seems they get jealous when the other gets attention from me, and a fight starts. I have to break them up, and usually get a scratch or bite in the process. The Sheltie goes from Angel Dog to Devil Dog in only a second if she feels threatened about food or attention. I have them in a small 1-Bedroom apartment and have a busy schedule (I'm a teacher), and I try everything I can think of to keep the peace between them. Please don't suggest getting rid of one of the dogs -- the...

Need help understanding
Posted on 2009/09/05 by TammyLet me start by saying that I am deeply saddened today, as our 10yr old sheltie passed this morning, we put him down. I am just trying to wrap my mind around why and find some comfort in the decision we made. About 2yrs ago he was diagnosed w/hypothyroid and an autoimmune disorder. He was immediately and on-going placed on thyroid medication and steroid therapy. in the past few weeks he began to become aggressive, had trouble finding a comfortable sleeping place, excessive panting, disoriented, aggression (even towards me), and while at the vet this week he began seizing. His blood work week before last showed high white blood cells and this week after being placed...

Potty training an adult dog?
Posted on 2009/08/24 by UserWe just got a 1 1/2 yr old show Westie from a breeder. He was potty trained at his old house, but here he almost never goes outside. Do I go about potty training an adult dog the same way as a puppy, or would you do it differently with an adult dog? Also, he is about 4 lbs underweight. How can I put weight on him healthily?

Cat scratched puppy
Posted on 2009/08/23 by ChristaMy 4 month old chihuahua puppy was scratched on the nose by my cat. It is a decent sized gash near his eye. He doesn't seem to be in pain at all. I did attempt to wipe it off with a wet clean rag and put some antibiotic ointment on it but he just licked it off. Is there anything I can do to keep it from getting infected or to help it heal?
