Itching and scratching canary
Posted on 2008/05/08 by User -
My 13 year old cat had surgery last week to have some growths removed from her ears. Her ears are fine now but she has been back to the vet and emergency hospital several times because she isn't eating (she did not have this issue prior to the surgery). She is obviously hungry (she begs for her treats) but she either won't eat or won't keep the food in her mouth. It appears that she is having trouble smelling the food. Could this inability to smell be a result of the surgery, the anesthesia (she had gas, not a tube in her mouth), or Clavamox (she vomited after one dose so we stopped it)? Have you ever seen anything like this? I'm desperate to help my cat and get...

I keep both of my indoor cats on a 3 yr booster plan for parvo/distemper vaccination. I'm a registered nurse and give people shots everyday at work. I wondered if it would be safe for me to purchase the vaccines from a pet supply company and administer myself. Would I be placing my pets in any harm?? I know that it is rare but sometimes an animal can have an allergic reaction to a vaccine even though they have received it before. Also some articles state that the distemper vaccine can be more damaging than helpful? Do my cats still need a distemper vaccine?

hard lump/mass above left anal sac
Posted on 2008/05/15 by UserHi. 5 days ago my dog had an impacted anal sac drained and packed with ointment and she is on clavamax and baytril. There is some lessening of the infection but there is still a hard mass above the left anal sac that extends up onto her rear next to the top of her tail. You can't see much so a picture won't help. You can just feel it. It's also quite painful for her if I touch that area. I'm concerned that it's a tumor. My vet said it may just be scar tissue. How do you know the difference? Thank you for your help.

Another Opinion
Posted on 2008/05/27 by UserMy cat has been diagnosed with (benign paroxysmal vertigo) by exclusion by the Neurologist. She was first thoroughly examined and treated by our vet (for any inner ear infection), and then examined by a Neuroligist. His findings stated above, with no specific cause found. When she has a relapse, we put her on 12.5 mg of Meclizine per day and this works fine to minimize the head tilt (somewhat), and relieve the dizziness& incoordination. She did have a fall a few years back when the first episode was noted. However both the vet and Neuroligist says that had nothing to do with this situation. My question (for a different opinion)...Is there anything else we...
