Long Term Prednisone Use
Posted on 2008/02/26 by UserAfter seeing a veterinary allergist, my German Shepherd was diagnosed with environmental allergies and atopic dermatitis. He has been on prednisone for the last year and has done well (no scratching, hot spots, goopy eyes, etc) and has flea treatments applied once a month. However, we were concerned with the drug's long-term effects and recently weaned him off. Although we bathe him every 3-5 days with Resicort as recommended by our vet, he's back to the incessant scratching, et al. We've tried changing foods, changing bedding, feeding Dynovite, giving him Benadryl, spraying him with Tea Tree Oil, but nothing has been as effective as the prednisone. Is our only other...

blood in urine
Posted on 2008/02/27 by SharonThe last few days my 8 yr old pom has had blood in her urine, diarrhea and once her stool was black. Now she has blood in her mouth. This may be a separate problem because she has very bad teeth and one is loose. I don't know if she is spayed. Could she just be in heat or is it more serious? She seems to have lost weight and I'm getting very worried.

lump on stomach
Posted on 2008/03/09 by ErinHi, I asked a question a little while about about allergies, etc. The vet did a throat wash on my beagle mix a couple of days ago to see if there's an infection. We haven't gotten the results back but last night I noticed a lump under her skin on her stomach. It's right in the place where the surgery was done for her spaying. I know the lump just came up because previously I'd had the vet look her over in that spot. There had been some tiny lumps that the vet said were probably just part of the material used to close her and would go away eventually. The lump that is there now is the size of a marble, doesn't seem to cause any pain, and feels fairly hard. I know when...
