14 yr old cat not eating, loosing weight

Rating: 0

my cat is 14 years old. she has always loved to eat, and has always been a little on the heavy side... but healthy. however, in the last couple of weeks she has lost a great deal of weight, and i can no longer get her to eat... i have also noticed her breathing is louder and heavier... so my question is, is this part of her age, or is there anything a veterinarian can do to help her?

From the symptoms, I would say see your veterinarian. Sometimes these do come with age mostly because like we do as cats age so does their body and the organs that are in it. They can change over time and the only way to find out how much is to do blood tests which your vet most likely can do in house or have the blood sent out to a local lab. If it is organ related depending on if it's the heart or the liver just for instance, their may be medications that can help keep you cat comfortable. But the only way to diagnose correctly would be to have them do an exam and the appropriate diagnostics.Any change in breathing is a call to the vet in my opinion to make sure the lungs and heart are doing okay. Wish you the best.
