It could very well be a urinary infection.  I would recommend contacting your Veterinarian and having them perform a urinalysis along with a Fecal testing for intestinal parasites.  They will be able to give you the proper deworming medication for the parasites that your puppy has.  They can also get you started on vaccines and heartworm prevention.  I wish you the best of luck with your new edition.

Roundworms and Hookworms can both be transmitted to humans.  Usually this is due to poor hygiene.  Not washing your hands, not wearing shoes, and not cooking properly.  I would recommend your friend to contact her physician but I do not think it is anything to be to concerned with.  Or many a Veterinarian and staff would be giving it to there offspring.  Roundworms and Hookworms can last for years in your soil so please remember to pick up your Dog's stool and dispose of it properly, so as not to contaminate the area where other dog's play and your's from getting the parasites again.  Also putting your Puppy on a good Heartworm prevention will deworm him for those parasites monthly.  Good luck
