Anal gland

Rating: 8

last night Gingers anal gland appears to have opened or burst. she appears uncomfortable but not in pain. she is eating and moving fine. Can the open wound be treated with home remedies or does this type of incident (which has occurred in the past) mandate a trip to the vet? We recently moved and have not yet found a new vet near our new home.

it is probably best to get it treated with antibiotics as this kind of infection probably wont go with any home remedies, you can try bathing the area in dilute warm salt water to keep it clean. maybe you can ask some neighbours which vets they use to advise you on a friendly reliable practice, or phone round a few to see which one you are most comfortable with. good luck
