Rimpo
Rimpo

We got Rimpo at our local shelter in November 2006- they said he was between 2-4 years old at the time. He is the sweetest soul in the world! My question is- is it normal for a dog's nose to change color? I had a dog as a child but I don't remember this happening. When we got Rimpo, his nose was black but now the color is lighter. Please tell me it isn't a sign of something wrong! Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Nina Peck

well this problem can be both normal and abnormal.  I have several pateints who this has happened to as a normal change where it will lighten up( in fact my own dog growing up had a nose so black as a puppy and then it became a paler brown a couple of years later). However if there is complete depigmentation (nose becomes pink) along with ulceration then this is not normal and can be a sign of a bigger immune system problem. If this more radical change happens then your dog should see your vet.

    I hope this helps
