There are many reasons for an older dog to act this way. Finding out is half the battle. In older animals their body tends to slow down and change just like in Humans. It's the vets choice on what diagnostics should be performed in order to find out what the cause is of these symptoms. I would definitely suggest having your veterinarian look into this and see what he/she thinks . They would most likely start off with an exam and run some bloodwork to have a look at the inside organs to see what changes have occured. They may or may no do x-rays depending on what a manual exam on the backend tells them.Sometimes it may just be as simple as your pet is in pain possibly due to the weakening of the hind quarters. If this is the case then it will cause a lapse in eating and drinking and definitely being listless. It's just their way of saying I am not feeling all that great. To know for certain though you must see your veterinarian. Just remember they can't tell you what's wrong . That's why Vets are as good as they are! I really hope this helps. I've seen quite a few labs with symptoms like this and it really would be great to have it checked on to help them feel better. Good luck! Keep me posted on how your lab is doing if you don't mind.
