Loose stools

Rating: 8

My 9 month old boxer has had loose stools with blood. I have brought in a stool sample and there is no parasites. He was on rice and boiled hamb. with no firming results. It has been 2 weeks now what can I give him to stop the runny stools? He is still very active and wants to continually eat. He will only eat ice cubes or snow and will only drink water if I put a small amount chicken broth in it. He has not lost any weight and urinates OK.

Symptoms: Diarrhea

Hello there. It sounds like you have done everything you can for him at home and it may be time for another visit to the vet.  I would keep him on a bland diet (chicken/rice) and worm him regularily.  Other than worms, the possibilities include IBD/colitis, giardia, salmonella and camphylobacter.  You can treat giardia with a 7 day course of Panacur.  I do suggest you take in a sample of his faeces again for the vet to send off for bacterial culture and analysis for protozoa.  The vet may also want to put him on a course of antibiotcs.  Panacur and may other medications are available (with prescription) at discounted prices at http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-2740930-10370532?sid=1008 . Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.
