Euthanasia.

Rating: 1

Is it possible for a vet to issue or administer a lethal oral medication instead of lethal injection when euthasia becomes necessary for a dog or other pet? It would be less stressful. The pet could pass away peacefully at home.

I am sorry to hear about your pet. The euthasol we use at the vet is a lethal injection of a controlled substance. You can ask your vet for Tramadol which is a pain med. If you want your pet to pass at home quietly keep the room lights low and keep the room quiet.

Once again I am sorry about your pet.

Apologies for the rating, it was 10 star but I failed to register it properly. Many thanks for your answer. My dog, Buzz, is nearly 16 years old, however he is hale and hearty, enjoys his food and walks and sleeps in our bed every night. I realize that he will not go on for ever though, and as he is very fearful of the vet I am just considering the options. Your answer is a great help, thanks, Jan, xx
