WEIGHT LOSS

SUMMER

SUMMER CAN NOT GAIN WEIGHT, SHE EATS PLENTY OF FOOD, BUT WHEN SHE USES THE BATHROOM IT LOOKS LIKE WARM DOG FOOD. SHE WAS CHUNKY LAST SUMMER. WE LOST OUR GOLDEN RETRIEVER AT THANKSGIVING THAT WAS 16 YEARS OLD. WE THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THIS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER WEIGHT LOSS. TOOK HER TO THE VET AND THAT IS WHEN THE DOC PRESCRIBED FLAGILL AND THE STEROID PREDINSONE. THIS MADE HER EAT CONSTANTLY BUT STILL NO WEIGHT GAIN. HE TOLD US TO FEED HER RICE AND LOW FAT COTTAGE CHEESE. THIS ONLY MADE HER GO TO THE BATHROOM TWICE AS MUCH AND STILL NO WEIGHT GAIN. HE TOOK AN X-RAY TO SEE IF SHE HAD SOMETHING OBSTRUCTING HER BOWELS. NOTHING WAS FOUND. WE JUST WISH SHE WOULD GAIN ABOUT 10 LBS OR MORE. FRIENDS ASK US WHY SHE HAS LOST WEIGHT WHEN THEY SEE HER. THE VET SAYS THAT SHE HAS BEEN HOLDING HER WEIGHT BUT STILL NO WEIGHT GAIN. CAN YOU GIVE US SOME SUGGESTIONS.

  Hi there.  I think some further testing is in order to assess her ability to absorb nutrients.  Some blood tests can indicate levels of pancreatic enzymes - if she is deficient in them, she may need supplementation in order to gain weight.  Good luck!
