no weight gain

Rating: 0

We have 2-8mo old kittens whose mother was feral. She was hit by a car when they were only 3 weeks old. We took them in, fed them cat formula from a bottle until they could lap, did the cotton ball lick thing and had all their vet visits and shots. The male almost died, but the female was hearty. Now he weighs amost 13 pounds, but she only weighs 6.5lbs. She looks thin, but she has been playing and eating normally. 2 weeks ago she began rolling on the floor on her back alot, mewing loudly and looking thinner to me. What's up?? Is she okay or should I take her in?

    Hi

The rolling around is probably her being on heat, if she isn't spayed. She may just be genetically smaller than the male, that is quite common. Siblings are sometimes very different in size. As long as her appetite is fine and she is not in poor body condition, I wouldn't worry.

The only possible concern is a liver shunt (portosystemic shunt) which could stunt growth - ask your vet about it at the next check up.
