swelling

My 12 year old husky developed a swelling behing her leg. The first vet I took her to said it was cancer just by touching it and refused to help further. After nearly a year she was still healthy, but the swelling grew. I took her to a vet in another country who said that it felt like fluid, drew a sample and found that it was just blood and wasn't too concerned except for the fact that she obviously has a leak somewhere. She drained about a third of it and my dog has been happy and healthy since then. However, whenever she goes under stress, it swells up again, and if she goes through periods of calm, it diminishes in size. Have you heard of this before and what would you suggest?

I would recommend sending a sample of the fluid to an outside laboratory (usually ANTECH).

Even if it does come and go there is always a chance it could be cancerous, and if so there are many oral and injectable treatments available.

Some mast cell tumors are extremely vascular (bloody) and can change in size. These tumors usually need to be removed and chemotherapy administered based on the margins when the tumor is removed.

I hope your little girl continues to do well!
