Ears

Louie keeps shaking and rubbing his ears on the floor. I was cleaning his ears with a ear cleaner but it didnt seem to help He had dark brown wax stuff in his ears. I started using Ear Mite meds. He is now shaking his head more, rubbing his ears, and they are hot to the touch and smell. Should I continue to use this or is this more serious?

I am sorry to hear of his problems, however black wax doesn't mean necessarily ear mites and ear mites are rare in adult animals ( apart from outdoor cats). A lot of dogs and cats naturally have black wax and this can be perfectly normal. However what is not normal is for there to be an odor, discomfort or redness. These are all things that can indicate infection.

It would be best for you to make an appointment tomorrow to see your vet about this as ear infections can get out of control very quickly. In the meantime clean his ear if he will let you ( white vinegar and water can be a great ear cleaner as a 50 50 mixture). I hope he feels better soon
