Dogs mark for a number of very different reasons. He may be telling other dogs that he is there and that the house is his, or he might be saying "ooh that makes you take notice of me". He may not even be marking his territory but increasing his sense of security. It is important you try and work out why he is doing this or you could make matters worse. To get help with this ask your vet to refer you to a qualified dog behaviourist who may be able to help.
Best wishes
Rosie Barclay.
