dog eats poop

my dog eates poop. his own poop as well as cat poop. we have strays in our neighborhood and he finds it and tries to eat it. if they have a keen sense of smell why the hell would they want to eat poop. i dont get it. i found this stuff called Deter - Coprophagia Treatment. its active ingredients are Monosodium Glutamate 200 mg and Oleoresin Capsicum 21 mcg. is this safe and will it work to help problem.

    Yes - It should work on the "eating his own poop" part.  The medication "For-Bid" changes the way their poo tastes and makes it taste bad to the dog (as if it doesn't already! :O) )  Only use this for a few days by sprinkling it onto their food.  You should notice a difference within a fews days.  As far as the cat poop goes, it won't help with that (only their own).  We don't really know why they are so infatuated with cat poop but it seems to be that the cat food they eat is digested and excreted and dogs enjoy the taste of it.  It's gross but I you will probably not be able to curb that craving.  What I would recommend is putting the litterbox up higher or in a place that your dog cannot get into. That is usually the only way to get them to stop.

    Let me know if I was able to help you today.  I would say that those ingredients are safe if they were purchased from a vet office so it is formulated especially for copraphagia and especially for dogs.

    Hey!! I had the same bad experience with my dog and there is a suprising and cheap help for it!! Pineapple!!!! Feed your dog a few cubes of pineapple with each meal and it will change the smell and taste to a unpleasant one for your dog!!! It really works and is not that expensive!! Good luck, Lizzy
