Urinating in house

Rating: 7
Milo
Milo

My dog is a rat terrior, two years old and house broken. A few months ago, he started hiking his leg all over the house, even when he just went outside. We then decided to crate train him and the urinating stopped. Now, its starting all over again. He has even hiked his leg and peed on people! Please help me help him. I have taken him to the vet just to make sure its not a medical issue and he is healthy with no problems. I think its just behavioral but I don't know how to stop it. I'v tried treats after he goes outside and hasn't worked. Help!

    Hi Shauna

It may be that Milo is marking and this could be for a number of reasons, he could be trying to say he's the boss around here, or that he's a bit insecure and has to top up his scent to help him cope better or simply that when he does this you respond one way or another (attention seeking). This sort of problem can not be solved over the internet and you will have to seek advice from your local qualified dog behaviourist as the answer depends on why he is doing it. Ask you local vet to recommend one to help you.

Sorry not to be of more help but if if I was to give you the wrong advice without seeing the dog in this case it might make things a lot worse.

    All the best

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
