Check his mucous membranes (gums) - are they blue in color? If so he is not getting enough oxygen to his tissues. If he is coughing and your medications aren't helping, he may not be having an asthma attack or it is much more severe than previously diagnosed. I would recommend bringing him to the veterinarian in case he has something much worse like penumonia, heart disease, etc.
In the mean time, you can try putting him in the bathroom while a hot shower runs (do not put him in the shower) so that he can benefit from the steam in the room (helps them breathe easier). Aside from that, there are no other medical treatments I can give you over the internet aside from the meds you already have since a vet will have to listen to his lungs to hear what is going on. I would also recommend that he has chest xrays to evaluate his lungs/heart.
Best of luck to you - let me know how it goes - A. Williams, DVM
