Is my dog in heat?

Rating: 9

My small yorkie female has swollen genitals and, today, i noticed, a small drip pf a whitish/clear discharge on her genitals. Is she just in heat, or does she need medical attention? She is 9mos. and has not been in heat or had a menstrual cycle before.

Yes this sounds like a typical first heat. There will probably be a progression to the discharge involving blood and then it will clear. It's a good idea to have her neutered in a few months as they are prone to health problems in later life if not. Be very careful to keep her away from male dogs while she is on heat.
