Is it time to go to the vet?

Hi, my cat seems to be working on a hairball. She has been retching a bit since Sunday and has not yet been able to cough it up. She seems to be breathing kind of rapidly, but just ate and went to the bathroom. Is it time to take her to the vet? Or should I give her more time to work this out on her own?

Symptoms: Breathing, Coughing

If her eating and bowel movements are normal, and she is bright and alert, it's ok to give her more time. There is a chance that the retching is caused by something other than a hairball, so if she'll let you it's worth checking her mouth/throat- they sometimes get something stuck in there. If there is a question over her breathing keep an eye on that- she may have a respiratory problem causing a cough which looks like the coughing that comes with hairballs.
