urinating in house

Rocky

our dachshund/schnauzer 2 year old male dog has begun urinating on the carpet, at times, instead of his training papers. Sometimes he uses the paper and other times he does not. We just recently moved to a new home and thought perhaps it was because of that. We moved last year at this same time, and he had no problem using his training pads. He basically is an inside dog and weights approx 16 lbs. Any advice? We need some and the new home and new carpet! Thank you..

This does sound like a behavioral problem. However, I have been surprised before by cases that seemed like behavioral issues, and I checked a urine sample and found a latent urinary infection! I would, therefore, advise having your veterinarian do a physical exam and check a urinalysis to rule out infections, crystals, etc. Assuming that everything checks out OK, we may have to go back to basics with him. How did you train him when he was a puppy? Have you tried crate-training? Please elaborate a bit on how he was trained and then we can discuss how to go forward. I am a big fan of crate-training for little guys like Rocky - it is simple and effective!
