Hi, I have a black lab, 1 1/2 year old. This morning she woke up with a swollen head, her face looks like a pit bull and her eye is almost swollen shut. I live in the mountains, no vets are near, do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

My first impression is a dog with an allergic reaction. I would begin by giving Benadryl orally. The dose is 1 mg/ pound of body weight (25 mg capsule to a 25 pound dog). This condition should subside in a few hours if it is an allergy. She needs to be seen quickly if her condition does not improve.

Thank you for being here! It occurred to me as well this may be an allergic reaction but I had no idea how to treat it. Currently, she has gone from looking like a pit bull to a St. Bernard but she is eating and behaving fairly normal. I will try the Benadryl. Thanks again. Sacheen
