Eye boogies and lots of them

Yesterday I noticed that my dog Zeus, an american pitbull terrier was getting a lot of eye boogies. I simply wiped them up and wasn't too concerned about them. Today when we woke up, his eyes were crusted from the amount of boogies he had and there was a bright green glob working it's way out of his eye. Once I got that cleaned up, I haven't seen anything else come out yet, but it's only been like an hour. I was wondering if maybe it was conjunctivitis or if it was allergies maybe or what else it could possibly be. Does this merit a trip to the vet for a prescription to help clear it up or will it clear up on it's own?

If the discharge continues, I would have him examined.  If it is both eyes, his eye lids could be rolling inwards (a condition called entropion).  This would likely require surgical correction, but he will need some eye meds to help with the discomfort.

It only seems to be his right eye, but I will keep an eye on it. Thanks

If it's only one eye he could have a scratch on his cornea.  However, entropion can be present in only one eye.
