Dragging hind legs

Lately my 12 yr. old 1//2 Lab 1/2 Rott seems to be dragging her back legs when she tries to get up from a laying position. It looks like she can't stand up for a couple of minutes. She has had bad allergies all her life and tries to gnaw on top of her back, therefore she has had to twist herself completely around all of her life. Could the twisting have affected her legs. I feel so bad about her always itching and trying to get to the top of her back, I give her3 benadryl twice a day, it doe's not help. And It kills me to see her drag her legs when she tries to stand. Also she just recently seems to not want her food, she just wants the juice and leave the rest. I also give her a baby aspirin twice a day and a half of a prescription tablet that is suppose to help with arthritis. Whatever info. you may give me would be appreciated.

There are probably several things going on here. Firstly the skin- if she is still itchy and the cause of the allergy has been removed, or can't be removed, it might be worth going to your vet for a change in medication. I don't think the twisting would have caused her hindlimb problems now. The hindlimb weakness could be a progression of the severity of her already existing arthritis, but there are also some degenerative spinal conditions which would produce the same signs, and you couldn't rule them out without physical exam and/or xray. When she gets up and going does she stop dragging her legs? What is the prescription drug she is taking for arthritis? I am slightly concerned that this might be interacting with the aspirin to make her feel sick and not eat. In an ideal world she would have some diagnostic work done but if not i think she certainly needs a review of her meds as soon as possible. It may be that a change would keep her comfortable.
