hi,i have been to the vets with the same problem of colitis with my dog a border terrier.he normally gets a temperature sickness diarrhea. This seems to happen after when he goes to get stripped out.(his dead hair pulled out).after this last bout he does not seem to be recovering quickly and has started to get a shake or nervous twitch witch seems to be in the lower stomack as his belly and legs seem to be the worst for shacking.he had tablets synulox and salazopyrin. What action do you think i need to take to try and alleviate this problem please.

It seems to me that the actual process of stripping Harvey stresses him out so badly that he breaks out with bouts of intestinal distress - this is very common. The shaking is likely due to pain caused by his colitis, but it is difficult to say so with any certainty without actually seeing him in person. How long has the current bout been going on for? Is he eating and drinking ok? Any vomitting going on? These things are all important to know in order to assess his general health and hydration status. Any time a dog has any sort of diarrhea or pain, I worry about them being dehydrated and uncomfortable, so I would recommend taking Harvey to your vet - he may just need some different colitis medication, perhaps an antacid or an anti-gas medicine to ease his stomach. If he is very dehydrated, he will need to have fluid replacement therapy, but again, your vet will be able to assess this in person. I would potentially recommend that when you take Harvey in to be stripped in future, you may like to ask your vet for a mild sedative so that he doesn't get so worked up! This may help to avoid future flare-ups of his intestinal problems.

it seems only when he gets bad diarrhea that he goes off his food for a day but keeps drinking.it is as though he is trying to sort it out himself.when we go to the vets it normally sorts the intestine problems out but the shacking carries on.this is what i am concerned about,is it just a nervous reaction or has he ghot himself so wound up that he can't stop now.it was approx 1 month since he got stripped and 2.5 week since seeing vet and getting those tablets and an injection for a temperature.when he is out he is fine enjoying his walks but in house just sulks in his bed shaking sometimes

It has been quite some time since he has been stripped, there is no reason that should still have him so worked up that he is constantly shaking. Shaking itself could be a sign of several things, including fever or pain. I would suggest having his temperature checked and have him assessed for any signs of pain. Does he still have diarrhea? Is he eating? The fact that he is still shaking a month later does concern me, and I would definitely recommend a re-check with your veterinarian.
