our 10 wk old white maltipoo has pink stains under his eyes. what are they?

Tear staining. In such a young dog it is likely that his tear ducts are not fully open yet. Clean is eyes daily with warm water and dry them well. If this continues your vet may need to have a look.

Warm water doesn't seem to help. How do the products for this type of staining work?

I see mixed results with water additives. They work for some, but not for all.
